Missouri deer harvest numbers down slightly opening weekend

The Missouri deer harvest was down about one percent on opening weekend of the firearms season compared to last year.

Hunters harvested nearly 94,977 deer. They checked 96,131 on opening weekend of 2016.

The top counties in the state were south of us, led by Howell with 2,267 deer harvested as of early Monday afternoon. Callaway had the biggest harvest in mid-Missouri, at 1,886 by early Monday afternoon.

The firearms deer season runs until Nov. 21.
