Columbia Public Schools voted Monday night to grant Lee Elementary’s request for a new name.
The school’s leaders had submitted a request asking the school board to form a committee. That committee’s expected to have a recommendation ready by December.
Lee Elementary was originally named after Confederate general Robert E. Lee. It has informally gone by Lee Expressive Arts since 1999, with Lee standing for “Learn, Explore, Express.”
93.9 The Eagle spoke to school board president Darin Preis about the decision.
