Road and bridge tax brings in $14 million per year

A half-cent road and bridge tax is up for renewal in Boone County in August.

Commissioner Fred Parry says the revenue earned from the tax goes to good use.

“The tax generates about $14 million a year, but we have 771 miles of roads to take care of and I think there’s 270 bridges in Boone County, which is hard to believe,” he said on The Gary Nolan Show.

Parry is also the founder of Inside Columbia, a magazine owned by the Zimmer Radio and Marketing Group.
