$10 million gift awarded to Mizzou constitutional democracy institute

It’s a $10 million gift for Mizzou.

The school’s Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy is getting the money through the Kinder Foundation. Cape Girardeau natives Rich and Nancy Kinder are behind both the foundation and the foundation of the institute.

Mizzou professor Justin Dyer says the money will support two new degrees: a bachelor’s in constitutional democracy, and a master’s in Atlantic history and politics.

“We’re excited about this [gift]. Democracy is under strain all around the world today, and I think it’s critically important for us to revisit the foundations of American constitutional democracy. And that’s what these two different degree programs do.”

The Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy was established at Mizzou in 2015.

“One of the goals that we’ve had is to bring the people together from across the political spectrum, and from different ideological perspectives, to pursue a shared and mutual inquiry into the foundations of American politics and how it’s developed since then,” Dyer says.
