10 percent voter turnout projected for Tuesday’s Columbia park tax election

Columbia voters are heading to the polls today to cast ballots on a park sales tax extension issue.

The one-eighth cent park sales tax extension ballot measure requires a simple majority for passage. Columbia Parks and Recreation projects the extension would generate $31 million over ten years.

Park officials are proposing major renovation projects at Rainbow Softball Center, Rock Quarry park, Lake of the Woods recreation area and several other parks.

Polls opened this morning at 6 and will close at 7 pm. Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon is projecting a ten percent voter turnout.

Her office reminds you to bring an ID with you to the polls today. That can include a voter ID, driver license, passport, a current utility bill, bank statement or a paycheck.

Ms. Lennon tells 939 the Eagle that today’s election will cost about $190,000 to $200,000.
