10-year CPS board vet Sessions seeks final term

Jonathan Sessions wants one more term on the Columbia Public Schools board.

The owner of a local small business, Gravity, has served on that board since 2010, when he was 26.

“We’ve just wrapped up a ten-year bond plan, and we’re working towards finalizing and putting forth the next one. What that’s going to look like for the next ten years. And I want to be a part of setting that foundation for the next ten years.”

Sessions says the district needs to follow local health data during the coronavirus. He pointed to an incident command team working through different scenarios in this pandemic, as CPS decides whether to have classes in-person, online, or some sort of mix.

“What that looks like…at this moment, I don’t think we can tell. But the key is planning for all of those scenarios, and making sure we’re prepared to maybe start with one and then work our way towards more that traditional classroom.”

Sessions is one of four candidates for three Columbia school board seats on June 2.
