20-vehicle pileup closes I-70 during Monday snow

A 20-vehicle pileup shuts down Interstate 70 at the Missouri River Bridge.

The chain reaction started before 1 p.m. Monday afternoon near Rocheport. The patrol says a van crashed near the bridge, then stopped while blocking both lanes of traffic. The other 19 vehicles tried to stop behind the van but could not.

One man from Eureka, 19-year-old Andrew Boyer, has serious injuries. Patricia Henning, 69, of Overland Park, Kansas, has moderate injuries.

That wreck closed the interstate for hours at the bridge. Traffic was diverted on to Highway 40 to cross the river.

Columbia Regional Airport recorded 0.9 inches of snow on Monday. But that was enough to cause several crashes all over mid-Missouri.

Fulton is one of many school districts canceling classes Tuesday. Jefferson City is one of those starting late. Columbia is open on schedule. See the full announcement list here.
