It will be cheaper for you to buy clothes, shoes, computers and back-to-school items across Missouri all weekend. You do not have to be a student to participate in the holiday, under the law.

This is the 20th anniversary of Missouri’s back-to-school sales tax holiday. Most back-to-school items, such as clothing, shoes, computers, school supplies and other items are exempt from state and local taxes all weekend. The sales tax holiday began at 12:01 this (Friday) morning and runs through Sunday night.

Then-Democratic Governor Bob Holden signed the bipartisan bill into law in 2004 at Chesterfield Mall, where he was joined by then-Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway (R-Warson Woods) and then-Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder (R-Cape Girardeau).
