Boone County’s clerk is projecting a 25 percent voter turnout in Tuesday’s April municipal elections.
Columbia’s hotly-contested three-way mayoral race features incumbent Mayor Barbara Buffaloe, who is seeking a second term. She faces two challengers: businessman Blair “Murph” Murphy and journalism instructor Tanya Heath. There’s also a hotly-contested race in Columbia’s fourth ward, where Councilman Nick Foster faces a challenge from Ron Graves.
Three candidates are seeking two seats on the Columbia school board: The three candidates are, in ballot order, Erica Dickson, Ken Rice and CPS school board president Suzette Waters.
And voters in the Boone County Fire Protection District will cast ballots on a $6-million no tax increase bond issue. Passage requires a four-sevenths majority, which is 57 percent. The proposal would extend the 2014 voter-approved 25-cent tax increase.
Boone County clerk Lennon also reminds voters that you can cast a no-excuse absentee ballot though Monday April 7 from the hours of 8 am to 5 pm at the Roger Wilson Government Center, with the exception of Sunday. Clerk Lennon also reminds you to bring a photo ID with you.
