31 pets rescued from Boone County house fire transferred to humane society

It was literally raining cats and dogs at the Central Missouri Humane Society this week.

The organization recently took in 17 cats and 14 dogs from Boone County Animal Control.

“The animals arrived to our shelter in small cages and were covered in urine and feces,” says Executive Director, Julie Aber.  “After all they have been through, they are all incredibly sweet and will make wonderful pets.”

The animals had been rescued from an August house fire in the Sunrise Estates subdivision a few miles east of Columbia near I-70.

The society said most of the animals badly needed grooming and some were suffering from breathing and dental problems.

They’re healthy now and will be up for adoption on Wednesday, December 12th.  A link to the application can be found on the CMHS website.
