Columbia man arrested after allegedly beating up ex-girlfriend

A Columbia man could face charges of armed criminal action and domestic assault after allegedly beating his ex-girlfriend in central Columbia.

According to police, the female victim reported she was walking home around 6:30 p.m. on Wilkes Boulevard when a car drove up next to her and Lawrence Betts got out of the passenger side.

She said Betts started running at her, threatening to kill her. When she tried to run away,  Betts apparently pushed her to the ground, held her there and punched her several times.

She also reported that he swung at her with a knife and cut her several times as well.

Police arrested Betts an hour later.
