A Missouri state lawmaker who graduated from Mizzou says he wants to prevent a situation like Danny Santulli’s alleged Columbia hazing incident from ever happening again.

State Rep. Travis Smith (R-Dora) will testify about his anti-hazing legislation before a Missouri House committee this (Thursday) morning. His two-page House Bill 1443 would prevent someone from being convicted of hazing if they’re the first to call 911 or campus security to report a need for medical assistance. That person would have to stay at the scene, until police or other first responders arrive.

Danny Santulli’s family members say that he is blind, following the alleged October 2021 incident. They say he’ll need care for life due to a severe, permanent brain injury. Boone County prosecutors have charged multiple people with various crimes in this case.
