Better Business Bureau warns of online holiday scams

‘Tis the season for holiday shopping…which means it’s also the time of year that online scammers try to get your personal information.

Timothy Johnston with the Better Business Bureau says make sure a website has “https” in the address before you buy, so that the transaction is encrypted. He also suggests shopping with a credit card.

“The credit card typically provides a bit more protection for you as a consumer than, say, a debit card that is linked to your bank account.”

The Better Business Bureau’s website has ratings for businesses and charities if you’re not sure about whether you should give out financial info.
