Treece among winners in April election

Brian Treece will serve another three years as Columbia mayor. The incumbent defeated challenger Chris Kelly 64 percent to 36 percent. Fellow council members Karl Skala and Ian Thomas were unopposed.

Della Streaty-Wilhoit (38 percent) and Blake Willoughby (30 percent) will fill the two open Columbia Public Schools board of education seats. Jay Atkins got 23 percent of the vote.

Southern Boone County school district voters approved a tax increase for new facilities. 59 percent of voters said “yes.” Voters in the Ashland area also approved a tax increase to give more money to the fire protection district, with 67 percent support.

Carrie Tergin easily won re-election as mayor in Jefferson City. She had 84 percent of the vote, with 15 percent going to Tiwan Lewis. Lorelei Schwartz and Stephanie Johnson won the race for the two open Jefferson City school board seats. Blair Oaks school district voters approved by big margins two propositions that will clear the way for a new high school.

Lowe Cannell (52 percent) defeated Mike West (35 percent) to become Fulton’s next mayor.

Boone County had a voter turnout of nearly 20 percent. Cole County’s turnout was 15 percent. In Callaway County, the turnout was 10 percent.
