Area police officers preparing for medical marijuana

You may see Mid-Missouri law officers playing catch up after medical marijuana hits the streets.

Cole County Sheriff John Wheeler says he expects their call volume will go up on everything from burglaries to impaired drivers. And he predicts it will only get worse.

“That’s going to happen.  We’re going to have recreational marijuana.”

Wheeler wonders how the dispensaries will guard all the money they’ll have to keep on hand because those proceeds can’t be kept in the bank because of federal law.
