West-central Missouri’s sprawling fourth congressional district was strongly Democratic for decades. It was represented for 34 years (1977-2010) by the late U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Lexington), and also had then-State Sens. Jim Mathewson (D-Sedalia) and Harold Caskey (D-Butler). Today, the fourth is solidly Republican. Fourth district GOP candidate Taylor Burks, a former Boone County clerk, addressed that change on “Wake Up Columbia” this morning, saying the Democratic Party moved too far to the left. He says they alienated conservative Democratic voters, including many farmers:
