Columbia’s new fire chief begins his position next week.

City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that Brian Schaeffer begins one week from today, on Monday August 19. City manager De’Carlon Seewood appointed Mr. Schaeffer to the post in July, saying he has demonstrated his ability to be forward-thinking about priorities and the levels of service that the CFD continually strives to achieve.

Mr. Schaeffer has spent the last 20 years working in Spokane Washington. City manager Seewood has said from the start that he was looking for a leader and someone who’s forward-thinking.

Former Columbia fire chief Clayton Farr Jr. retired in April. The other three finalists for the position were local candidates: Columbia deputy fire chief and Hickman graduate John Ambra, MU Health Care clinical manager Chuck Doss and Columbia assistant fire chief and Rock Bridge graduate Jeffrey Heidenreich.
