A special election will be held on Tuesday August 5 to fill Columbia’s second ward council seat.
Second ward councilwoman Lisa Meyer will resign on Friday May 16 for health reasons. The city council voted this week to hold the special election in August. Candidates interested in the seat can start filing on Tuesday, May 13. Residents interested in running for the second ward seat must file a petition for office with the city clerk’s office, and they must be a qualified voter and resident of Ward 2 and hold no lucrative public office. Candidates must also obtain at least 50 signatures of registered voters in Columbia’s second ward.
Outgoing Councilwoman Meyer tells 939 the Eagle that she’ll resign next week to focus on her health, well-being and family. Her term still has almost two years on it.
