Basye: CRT will be “front and center” for Missouri House in 2022

A key Missouri lawmaker predicts the House will approve legislation next year involving critical race theory (CRT).

State Rep. Chuck Basye (R-Rocheport), who chairs the House Elementary and Secondary Education Committee, spoke on “Wake Up Columbia,” saying history should be taught but that “we shouldn’t be rewriting history.” He also says children should not be shamed because of the color of their skin.

Seven CRT supporters testified this week before the Joint Committee on Education in Jefferson City. Civil rights leaders say attempts to ban CRT could scare educators from teaching about the Holocaust.

Basye, who serves on the Joint Committee on Education, says he doesn’t know what the Missouri Senate will do next year on CRT.
