Blunt backs Trump push for border wall

Missouri Republican Senator Roy Blunt says we’ve seen border security success when physical barriers were put up in the San Diego and Tucson areas.

“I fully support the president’s call for a more secure border, and frankly I think physical barriers are part of that.”

The federal government has been in a partial shutdown for nearly three weeks, as Republicans and Democrats argue over border wall funding. Blunt says Democrats are letting you down when it comes to a very basic duty.

“One of the jobs of the federal government is to secure its border.”

More from The Associated Press:

President Donald Trump will travel to McAllen, Texas Thursday, to visit a border patrol station for a roundtable on immigration and border security.

Trump is trying to bolster his case for the border wall after negotiations with Democrats blew up Wednesday over his funding demands.

Trump stalked out of the meeting and soon after tweeted, “I said bye-bye,” as efforts to end the partial government shutdown fell into deeper disarray.
