Boone County emergency management officials say outdoor warnings sirens were activated for the entire county on Wednesday as a precautionary measure.

That’s because the National Weather Service (NWS) had just issued a tornado warning for Boone County. Before that happened, a tornado caused widespread damage in mid-Missouri’s Pilot Grove.

The Boone County Office of Emergency Management says a line of severe storms capable of producing tornadoes in Boone County was identified, and radar indicated rotation within the storms. They say that out of an abundance of caution, they requested that Boone County Joint Communications sound all outdoor warning sirens to ensure the broadest possible public awareness.
