Boone County judge denies temporary restraining order on health restrictions

A Boone County judge has denied a request to temporarily block local COVID-19 restrictions.

That ruling came during a virtual hearing on Friday morning before Judge Brouck Jacobs.

Paul Prevo of Tiger Tots Child Development Center wanted the temporary restraining order against county health director Stephanie Browning’s restrictions, which go further than state guidelines.

“As the public health director, your job is to protect the public health. You’ve done that to a degree. But now that our hospitals are having to lay off people that’s not protecting the public health anymore,” Prevo told Wake Up Columbia on Tuesday.

Boone County’s two Democratic commissioners tried to hold a meeting about the lawsuit without including Republican commissioner Fred Parry. Parry told 93.9 The Eagle on Thursday he disagrees with the health order, but is not facilitating the lawsuit.
