Boone County patient dies from new coronavirus

The state of Missouri has experienced its first coronavirus death, and it’s in the Columbia area.

In a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Governor Mike Parson and Columbia Mayor Brian Treece said the Boone County patient that tested positive for the coronavirus has died.

Officials identified the person on Tuesday night only as a Boone County resident in their 60’s who had contracted COVID-19 from traveling abroad. They said at the time the patient was self-isolating at home.

Treece said local officials are working with the patient’s family to identify exposure risks. The emergency crew that responded to the 911 call made by the patient’s family is now under quarantine in Boone County.
