We’ll hear an update Saturday morning on Schneider Electric’s planned expansion in north Columbia, along with an update on the Boone County Sheriff’s regional law enforcement training center being built in Columbia.
Boone County presiding commissioner Kip Kendrick will join host Fred Parry in-studio for the hour from 7-8 am tomorrow on 939 the Eagle’s “CEO Roundtable.”
Schneider Electric, which plans a $73-million expansion at their facility on Route B, is seeking property tax abatement on the expansion. 939 the Eagle’s Mike Murphy has reported the planned expansion would create 240 new jobs. The city of Columbia has used what’s called Chapter 100 to help Kraft Heinz in 2015 and in 2024. They’ve also used them with Swift Foods in 2021 and with other companies.
Commissioner Kendrick will also brief listeners on the new multi-million dollar Boone County Sheriff’s regional law enforcement training center being built in Columbia. Groundbreaking took place in April, and construction is progressing.
Mr. Parry and Commissioner Kendrick will also discuss the issue of housing and the senior real estate tax relief program. Boone County Southern District commissioner Justin Aldred has noted that about 60,000 residents have moved into Boone County since the last master plan was approved in 1996. Commissioner Aldred has said we’ll need about 37,000 additional housing units by 2050.
