(AUDIO) Boone County to delay virus reopening plan

Boone County health officials plan to pause on the current step in the local recovery plan.

Mass gathering limits were going to jump from 100 people to 250 on July 24. That will be delayed at least three more weeks now.

Scott Clardy, assistant director of the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services, says the rise in coronavirus cases lately is not just because of more testing. The percentage of people testing positive has also gone up a lot.

“We do not want to have to go back to shutting down businesses and doing stay-at-home orders and all that type of thing. But people have got to work with us or something is going to have to give,” Clardy says.

Clardy says the best weapons against the coronavirus right now are social distancing and wearing a mask when you have to be within six feet of people.
