Boone County walk-in vaccine clinics continue

Boone County is hosting more walk-in vaccine clinics this weekend.

On Saturday, there will be shots available during the Juneteenth block party at Douglass Park from 12 to 2 p.m. and the World Refugee Day celebration at the MU Health Care Pavilion from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be a clinic Saturday at the Hallsville 4-H and FFA Youth Expo from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Boone County had 19 new positives Thursday. Active cases went up a little, to 70. Hospitalizations also rose slightly, to 36, and are limiting resources. Cole County added three new cases.

More from the Associated Press:

A swath of southern Missouri is seeing a big rise in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations at just the wrong time — as tourists eager to get out after being cooped up for a year make their way to popular destinations such as Branson and Lake of the Ozarks. Data from the state health department’s COVID-19 dashboard shows 206 people hospitalized with the virus in southwestern Missouri — nearly double the 111 hospitalizations on May 1. Health experts cite two factors driving the surge: The presence of the faster-spreading Delta variant, and a reluctance among residents to get vaccinated.
