There is a lot of voter interest in four statewide proposed constitutional amendments, and there are some primaries as well. Bill Ellis and Spencer Smith are facing each other in the Democratic primary for associate circuit judge in the 13th circuit.

The ballot issue generating most of the attention from voters on 939 the Eagle’s Facebook page is Columbia’s Proposition One, a proposed one percent sales/use tax for public safety. Supporters say passage of Proposition One will help ensure that there are enough firefighters and police to respond quickly when emergencies happen. Opponents of the measure say the city should cut spending in other areas to hire more police and firefighters.

Clerk Lennon also reminds voters that starting on Tuesday July 21 through Monday August 3, the Boone County Government Center in downtown Columbia will be open weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 8 to 2 for no-excuse absentee voting. You’ll need to bring your photo ID.
