BREAKING: Three dead after Amtrak train collides with dump truck in Chariton County, northwest of Columbia

BREAKING: Missouri state troopers say three people have been killed in this afternoon’s horrific collision between an Amtrak train and a dump truck near Mendon, northwest of Columbia. Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Justin Dunn tells reporters the three victims include the driver of the dump truck.

Troopers say the collision happened at an uncontrolled crossing near a gravel road, a crossing that does not have lights. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be heading to the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) says state troopers and numerous other agencies are responding to a train derailment near Chariton County’s Mendon, northwest of Columbia.

State troopers say eight train cars have derailed after the Amtrak train collided with a dump truck. They say local and surrounding agencies are at the scene providing mutual aid assistance.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced the derailment on Twitter. “We ask Missourans to join us in praying for all those impacted,” the governor writes.
