UPDATE: Suspect in the Oak Towers incident taken into custody

UPDATE: Columbia Police spokesman Jeff Pitts tells 939 the Eagle that the suspect who barricaded himself in an apartment at Oak Towers has been taken into custody. The suspect’s name and age are not being released. Pitts says the suspect allegedly fired shots after a disturbance, but Columbia Police did not return fire. No injuries are reported.

Boone County Joint Communications is asking everyone to avoid the area around Garth and Worley in central Columbia.

Joint Communications tells 939 the Eagle that the entire block around Oak Towers is closed, due to a police incident.

Our partner ABC-17 News has a camera crew on-scene, and KMIZ reports there are at least 10 police cruisers around Oak Towers.

No other details are being released. Avoid the area.
