Callaway County deputies arrest two after pursuit through fields and woods

Callaway County deputies have arrested two people after they allegedly fled from a traffic stop.

According to law enforcement, deputies were proactively patrolling the area of Williamsburg and Calwood on Sunday morning. A deputy apparently tried to stop a vehicle on County Road 151 near State Road A for traffic violations just before 5 a.m.

Authorities saw that the car had been stolen out of Branson. The vehicle fled and drove through fields and into the woods.

Other deputies, including the K9 unit, searched for the suspects that had fled on food.

At 10 a.m. they were found near the intersection of County Road 163 and Old Highway 40 west of Williamsburg.

Shawn Mills, 40, and Tonya Gerlt, 33, were arrested. Gerlt was wanted out of Howard County for drug and traffic offenses.

Both are facing charges of tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest. Gerlt also faces the Howard County charges as well.

Mills has a $6,000 bond and Gerlt has a $1,500 bond.
