Cardinals, Royals open 2021 season Thursday

The Cardinals open the season Thursday afternoon at the Reds.

Jack Flaherty makes the Opening Day start for St. Louis. Luis Castillo pitches for Cincinnati.

Thursday also marks the Cardinal debut for long-time Rockies all-star Nolan Arenado at third base.

Manager Mike Shildt says it was a strong Spring Training.

“These guys are ready to go and compete. [We’ve] put in everything that we can imagine they’re going to see, and they’ve executed it all well. And now is the time to enjoy ourselves and go compete.”

About 30% fan capacity will be allowed at Great American Ballpark. Listen to the Cardinals all season long on 93.9 The Eagle.

The Royals open their season at home on Thursday afternoon against the Rangers. About 10,000 fans per game will be allowed in to Kauffman Stadium to begin the year.

Brad Keller makes the opening day start for KC. Mizzou alum Kyle Gibson takes the ball for Texas.
