Caregiver of boy found dead indicted for child abuse

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. –  The caregiver who reported a 4-year-old Jefferson City boy missing could now stand trial in his death.

A Cole County Grand Jury indicted Quatavia Givens with child abuse resulting in a death in the case of Darnell Gray.

She reported the boy missing on Oct. 25. His body was found 5 days later after an extensive search by the community.

An autopsy showed the boy died from “blunt and sharp force trauma.”

Givens will be arraigned next month. A conviction on this charge could carry a life sentence.
