Charges dropped against woman in murder-for-hire case

Charges have been dropped against a Lake-area woman accused in a murder-for-hire case.

ABC 17 reports the outgoing Camden County prosecutor dropped the charges against Leigh Ann Bauman last week, right before the office changed hands to a new prosecuting attorney. Bauman was arrested in 2021 after she allegedly was caught on tape talking about a plot to hire someone to kill her ex-husband’s mother.

Court documents say Bauman believed her ex-husband’s mother was straining the relationship between Bauman and one of her kids. Investigators say Bauman agreed to pay $1,500 for the killing.
