Chariton County man charged in flood death

A Chariton County man is accused of involuntary manslaughter after he allegedly drove into floodwaters  earlier this week, killing a woman in his vehicle.

ABC 17 News reports that Highway Patrol troopers said that James Pleasant drove west on Route M from Highway 11 Friday morning around barricades warning drivers of the flooded road ahead.

The vehicle was swept off the road. Pleasant was able to escape through the trunk but Alicia Meyer, his passenger confined to a wheelchair, was trapped and died after the car sank.

Her body was found at about noon on Tuesday.

At last check, Pleasant was in the Chariton County Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond.
