Chiefs host Texans to open NFL season

The NFL season kicks off at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night. The defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs host the Texans.

All preseason football games were canceled due to coronavirus concerns. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has also dealt with practice limitations due to the pandemic.

“There’s always different things that happen in the first game anyway, and now you add on the fact that teams weren’t able to do much in the offseason other than virtually,” Reid says. “I’ll be curious like you are to see how it all rolls.”

The Chiefs are allowing less than 25% attendance at home games. Tailgating is still happening, but no paper tickets, parking passes, or even dollar bills will be accepted. No bags are allowed, and social distancing and masks are required.

The AFC South champion Texans won the regular season matchup at Arrowhead in 2019, and jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the divisional round playoff game. The Chiefs rallied to win 51-31, on the way to a Super Bowl title.

Listen to Thursday night’s game on the new radio home for the Chiefs in mid-Missouri, 96.7 KCMQ.
