City council approves lease agreement with Veterans United at fairgrounds

The Columbia City Council approved a new agreement with Veterans United on Monday night.

VU has used part of the old Boone County fairgrounds for company events since 2016. The city took over the property last year.

VU will pay $10,000 more a year in rent to help with utility payments, along with a few other changes.

The council on Monday night also voted to officially approve the return of the Boone County Fair to its old north Columbia site July 17-25. That was going to happen last summer, but the event was canceled because of the pandemic.

Both measures were part of the council’s consent agenda.
