The city of Columbia is getting ready to complete work along Providence Road downtown that would connect Flat Branch Park with the new Gateway Plaza at the Broadway intersection. The city authorized a $187,000 contract with Emery Sapp & Sons at its meeting Monday to construct a 60-foot pedestrian bridge. When the bridge is complete, city crews will complete sidewalk installation, landscaping and lighting. Emery Sapp is donating the labor and a plaque will be placed at the bridge in memory of long-time Emery Sapp employee Justin Gay.
