The city is hosting a town hall meeting from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm today at city hall. Today’s topic will be about budget priorities.

Columbia currently has an approximately $558-million budget, an increase of $12-million from last year. City manager De’Carlon Seewood says the budget emphasizes public safety: $68-million of the city’s general fund budget goes toward public safety. That’s about 51 percent of the general fund budget. City finance director Matthew Lue says it’s essential to involve residents in the budgeting process.

Your invited to attend today’s meeting, which is open to all Columbia residents. The city has asked that you register before attending. Light refreshments will be provided.
