City plans new well, underground lines

The city of Columbia planning to construct a new water well in the McBaine Bottoms where the city draws its water. It’s inviting the public to an informational meeting on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at city hall. City officials say Alluvial Well No. 10 is near the end of its useful life and are proposing to drill a new well on the same site, install new pumping equipment and properly close the existing well.


Columbia’s Water and Light Department is planning to install some new underground electric distribution lines in 2026. Staff is hosting a meeting on from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday at city hall to share the plans with the public. Three of the projects extend from the Perche Creek substation off Scott Blvd. on the west side of the city. Another extends from the Bolstad substation on Peabody Road on the city’s north side. The plans and maps will be available for the public to review at the meeting.
