A coalition that’s formed to save the historic Katy railroad station in downtown Columbia says it now has more than 1,000 supporters.
The group “Save the Katy Station” is planning an event for next Sunday October 4 from 5-8 pm at Shiloh Bar and Grill, which is housed in the Katy Station.
The free event will include a presentation on the building’s past and possible future uses and a public listening session.
Former Boone County commissioner Fred Parry, who is part of the coalition, says it’s a grassroots effort. Mr. Parry has told 939 the Eagle that the group wants to respect owner Jack Maher’s private property rights and that Mr. Maher should receive the money he deserves for taking great care of the building. Parry says the coalition hopes to convince the potential new owners to rethink their location for student housing.
