Cole County courthouse evacuated after bomb threat

Authorities evacuated the Cole County Courthouse in Jefferson City after a bomb threat on Tuesday morning.

Sheriff John Wheeler says they received word of the threat shortly before 10 a.m.

“It was decided to go ahead and evacuate not only the courthouse but the annex building,” said Wheeler. “At that point, we contacted Capitol police, who we have a good relationship with, and they were able to bring over their bomb dogs, and were able to determine that there was, in fact, no bomb.”

Employees were back at work a little after 11 a.m. Wheeler wouldn’t say if the bomb threat was phoned in or was made through social media. He says investigators have a suspect in mind, but did not say who that person was.
