It looks like Jefferson City will get about two-thirds of the CARES Act money requested from Cole County leaders.
Mayor Carrie Tergin says she wanted $1.4 million. The county has okayed $900,000 for city needs related to the pandemic.
“We wouldn’t have submitted these [requests] if we did not feel that they were a priority,” Tergin said to KWOS. “And we would have not submitted them if we didn’t think that they were not reimbursable.”
Mayor Tergin says most Jefferson City COVID-19 expenses have been for public safety and virtual operation of city government. Cole County received $9 million in CARES Act funding from the federal government.
