Columbia announces two city manager finalists

The city of Columbia has narrowed down its city manager search to two finalists.

One of them is the current interim city manager, John Glascock. He’s worked in Columbia government for more than 16 years.

James Palenick has been Racine, Wisconsin’s city administrator since 2017. He has 29 years of experience in city management, according to a Columbia press release.

“I think that the question will be do we want to maintain the status quo, or do we have enough structural issues where we want to do some fundamental change?” councilman Michael Trapp said, while praising both candidates.

Mike Matthes resigned as Columbia city manager last November.

The two candidates will have their final interviews on July 10 and 11.
