It only took a few hours for the city of Columbia to be overwhelmed by applications for a program meant to help small businesses.
The program was offering microloans up to $5,000 before the city stopped taking requests at about noon Wednesday.
UPDATE: The City of Columbia’s Microenterprise Recovery Loan Program is no longer accepting applications at this time. If you or your business has already begun your application, please complete the application or contact their staff with questions.

Unemployment statewide was already up to 4.5% in March, before the full impact of COVID-19 on the economy hit. Retail sales had an unprecedented drop nationally last month.
