The Columbia City Council on Monday night approved a climate action and adaptation plan. It’s meant to show how the city will make big cuts to its greenhouse gas emissions, and adjust to climate change.
“I think the 150 recommendations really provide a tangible framework and road map for how we address this issue, both in the short-term and long-term,” Mayor Brian Treece says.
“Now it’s going to be up to us to determine what the balance is with the roads and the infrastructure and the climate change and all the rest,” Councilman Karl Skala says. “All these things are priorities. We have to figure that out. But I’m a believer.”
The goal is to make city operations carbon neutral by 2050. It does not come with any new regulations, just recommendations.
