Columbia council approves new recycling drop-off site

The Columbia City Council approves a new drop-off recycling site. It will be in a city parking lot near Cosmo Park off West Business Loop 70.

Utilities director David Sorrell told the council during a public hearing Monday night at city hall that he could add more drop-off sites soon, including in the southwest part of town where there is high demand.

“I think by providing additional locations as options for people to go, we might tackle that problem without the need to staff them all the time.”

Recycling has piled up at current Columbia drop-off sites the last couple months. The city changed its trash system in February.

The new drop-off center costs $30,000, and opens in the fall.
