Columbia council to get virus response update after health order extension

The Columbia City Council gets the latest on local COVID-19 response on Monday night.

That comes after Boone County health officials on Friday announced an extension of their restrictions until Dec. 8. Bars and restaurants have to close at 10:30 p.m.

Columbia mayor Brian Treece says new infections are growing to a point that is not containable.

“Simply put, we’re going the wrong way. We’ve lost all the gains we made this spring and this summer.”

Boone County averaged 140 cases a day during the week of Nov. 9. The state’s rolling seven-day average is now higher than 3,700 cases a day. COVID-19 hospitalizations are at or near all-time highs both locally and statewide.
