The Columbia Fire Department (CFD) says a missing dog that they rescued from a partially frozen residential pond on Osage drive has been happily returned to her family.

CFD says this week’s rescue happened on Osage drive, which is north of Clark lane and just east of Ballenger. Firefighters arrived on-scene within six minutes and found a dog about 30 feet from shore in a pond that was partially frozen. CFD says a firefighter recognized the danger and wore specialized ice rescue gear then entered the pond and quickly rescued the dog.

No injuries are reported and the firefighters and MU Health Care paramedics warmed the dog up. Animal Control responded and identified the dog as “Bear”, who was reported missing earlier Tuesday. CFD says Bear is back with her family this morning.
