Columbia is now Missouri’s fifth-largest school district

Columbia’s school superintendent says CPS’ continued work toward excellence is possible due to community support and its investment in schools.

CPS Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood will present a report to the board Monday night about long-range facility plans. CPS student enrollment has increased by more than 1,500 in the past decade, to about 18,500 students today.

Dr. Yearwood says CPS is now Missouri’s fifth-largest district.

Meantime, trailers in CPS have dropped from 173 in 2007 to 20 today. Those statistics are part of the long-range report that Dr. Yearwood will deliver. Dr. Yearwood’s report will note there are no trailers at CPS high schools. The 20 trailers are located at middle and elementary schools.

The report will also highlight the Rock Bridge elementary school addition, which began in 2020.

Dr. Yearwood says CPS will focus on growth, safety and security and accessibility in the next ten years.
