Columbia man arrested over Planned Parenthood fire

A Columbia man is now facing a federal charge that he set the fire at the local Planned Parenthood clinic last month.

Wesley Kaster, 42, was arrested on Saturday. Federal prosecutors announced the charge of maliciously damaging a building on Monday.

He allegedly broke a door of the clinic on North Providence early Feb. 10 and put large buckets of gasoline inside. Then prosecutors say Kaster threw in a Molotov cocktail.

U.S. attorneys say Kaster is on surveillance video setting the fire, getting into a minivan matching one he owns. He’s also on video buying five-gallon buckets used in the fire at Lowe’s. His wife apparently posted on Facebook in 2015 “Guns Don’t Kill People, Planned Parenthood Kills People.”

The FBI has been investigating the case as a hate crime. No one was hurt in the fire.
